Who
we are
Susi Snyder

Susi Snyder is the Director
of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom's United
Nations office in New York City. She is responsible for the direction
and leadership of the Reaching Critical Will and PeaceWomen projects,
and also acts as the main WILPF representative to the United Nations.
She is the chief administrator of finances, communication, and outreach
of the WILPF UNO, and monitors various issues under the aegis of
the United Nations, including sustainable development, human rights,
and disarmament.
At the United Nations,
Ms. Snyder executes WILPF's advocacy efforts at the international
level, speaking on behalf of WILPF at various press conferences,
inter-governmental consultations, and for various television and
radio programs. Other responsibilities include maintenance of the
international website www.wilpf.int.ch,
coordination and preparation of WILPF women coming to the UN, and
outreach to a broad coalition of civil society organizations on
on issues related to WILPF’s international program of action.
Ms. Snyder also maintains strong connections with the academic community
and has spoken to students at Yale and the New School University.
Since Ms. Snyder has been with WILPF she has also coordinated community
education events in New York City as well as more than a dozen events
in the UN itself.
Before coming to WILPF,
Ms. Snyder was a staff member at the Shundahai Network, an indigenous
led organization based in Nevada. She has organized more than 10
international disarmament conferences and has facilitated the participation
of poor, people of color and disenfranchised community members in
the creation and monitoring of US nuclear policy. Ms. Snyder has
spoken at more than 40 hearings regarding nuclear weapons, power
and waste, including presentations to the National Academy of Sciences,
the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Department of Energy,
countless rallies and demonstrations. She has appeared as the featured
guest on numerous radio programs and stations including: Democracy
Now (broadcast nationally); WBAI (New York City); KRCL (Salt Lake
City); She has also organized more than 30 nonviolent direct actions
to affect change, and was named a "Las Vegas Hero" for
her efforts by the Las Vegas City Life, in 2001.
